Johnny Stallings, Deborah Buchanan, Bill Faricy and Katie Radditz met together on September 2, 2019 and inaugurated The Open Road. The Open Road is a learning community. We registered with the Oregon Secretary of State as a public benefit nonprofit corporation (DNP) on September 18, 2019. On November 18, 2019 we were granted tax-exempt status by the IRS. Our EIN number is 84-3198785.
Our first official event was a performance of Walt Whitman’s “Song of Myself” by Johnny Stallings on October 8, 2019, at Lewis & Clark College. Oregon’s Poet Laureate, Kim Stafford, joined Johnny for a post show discussion with students and other audience members. Kim is among the “Faculty & Friends” of The Open Road, which can be found by clicking on OUR COMMUNITY or OUR TEAM, (from the drop-down menu under ABOUT), on the home page of this website.
Prabu Muruganandam and Johnny meet weekly for a study and dialogue group called “What’s Going On Here?: Inquiring Into Our Human Life on Earth.” We are looking forward to having others join us for this exploration.
Looking ahead, Kim Stafford and Johnny Stallings are going to host a workshop in Guanajuato, Mexico from December 28, 2019 through January 1, 2020 called “Writing and Talking the Art of Living.” Find out more about this workshop under EVENTS on this website.
