I write and invite others to write.
I surrender to obsessions: words, photographs, conversations, wandering.
I’ve worked with writers in remote Alaska, Italy, Scotland, Bhutan.
As Oregon’s poet laureate, I’ve shared poetry in the desert, in schools, libraries, prisons, with veterans, homeless youth, immigrants, the very young and the very old, and with seekers of all kinds.
I’ve told my wife, “On my tombstone you may inscribe: ‘He was easily pleased by a few words.’”
